What is acidification ?

What is acidification ?

It means when acid is pumped into an object it will cause the pH level will rise and if the pH level gets to high it will cause it to acidify. In other words if acid was to be pumped into an object the pH levels would rise which will cause it to become acid. It means when there are to many particles/gases like poison or carbon in the atmosphere the ocean absorbs some of these these gases which causes the hp level to rise and if the pH level gets to high it will acidify.

What is deforestation ?

Deforestation is happening everywhere and it's a bad thing why? you might ask its because the amount of trees being cut down are just to much. At a rate of thirty six trees per minute getting cut down is just to overwhelming so we need to reduce the amount of trees getting cut down. Deforestation is when people cut down trees for a specific reason like for making furniture or making houses or clearing out spaces for farms and for other purposes and not replacing the trees. Deforestation doesn't just affect our atmosphere just because there are no trees to take in the carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen it also affects the water cycle because the precipitation patterns which is a part of the water cycle. So when it rains trees and plants absorb the rain but through transpiration they lose water which is evaporated into the atmosphere and clouds form from the evaporated water and when there is enough water collected it will pour down again and it works as a cycle and it will do that again and again but when there are no trees the cycle is broken because when it rains there are no trees left to uptake the water so most of the rain builds up and and moves of the surface as runoff this means that there isn't much water to be evaporated which means there is a smaller contribution to clouds and rain. Eventually this will degrade the environment because its lacking the amount of water it needs.

What are trees used for ?

Trees are really important because if there were no trees on earth we would not be alive. Trees are used for many purposes its used for furniture, houses, pencils, paper etc etc and they also have an important role in humanity trees absorb carbon dioxide which is released by cars, trucks and many other uses of transportation and factory's too where clothes and cars are manufactured release a lot of co2 which is absorbed by trees and releases oxygen but humans do the opposite we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide Even though we need trees to live we still cut them down at a pretty fast rate. One thing that would really help is if all the trees that got cut down were replaced so it would be like a cycle but if it was going to get cut down for farms or buildings at least plant some new trees somewhere else even though there are alot of trees in this world we still need to think about what where doing to our forests and our lives

Ice cap melt

If all the ice on Antarctica,Greenland and the world's glacier melted what would happen ?

It would raise global sea levels by an astonishing sixty eight point three meters which  is equivalent to two hundred and twenty four feet. That is an enormous amount and it would  destroy many places called home to hundreds of thousands of people for example Fiji,Tuvalu,Samoa,Tonga and all the pacific nations will be completely emerged under water which will lead to many families fleeing to other states to find a new home but such a catastrophe would take five thousand years at the current rate of ice melting to happen but it would severely ultra the geography of our planet but this wouldn't just have an affect on the pacific nations it would also greatly affect many other states around the world like in north America Vancouver,Seattle,Portland and most of San Diego and Los Angeles would be under water San Francisco would be an island and San Jose would be destroyed by the waves. The San Francisco bay a would greatly expand in size to completely swallow Sacramento the gulf of California would expand so far north that Palm Springs would become a coastal city while along the Atlantic coast the ocean would expand to swallow the cities of Corpus Christi,Houston,
New Orleans the entire state of Florida as well as the entire state of Delaware almost all of Long Island and the cities of New York,Philadelphia,Baltimore,Washington D.C and Boston South America would also be severely flooded with two new Inland seas existing on the continent and the cities of Buenos Aires,Montevideo and Rio DE Janine would all be under water. Europe would be one of the most devastated areas in the world. The entire country of the Netherlands would be under the water and so would nearly all of Denmark and half of Belgium. The British isles would become more of an archipelago and London would be totally buried under the sea Northern Germany would also be entirely under water including the city of Berlin and Venice and Italy would have long since reclaimed by the Adriatic sea Istanbul will also be under water the Crimea peninsula would become the Crimea Island and the Black and Caspian seas would be connected with one another which would mean that Kazakhstan,Uzbekistan,Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan would no longer be landlocked countries Africa would perhaps be the least severely affected continent but Egypt would be severely damaged by having both Alexandria and Cairo going under water the Persian Gulf meanwhile would swallow the entire countries of Bahrain and Qatar and the city of Baghdad. India and Pakistan would be badly damaged but the entire country of Bangladesh would cease to survive in this catastrophe hundreds of millions of people would be underwater in China including Beijing and Shanghai in edition to the cities of the Seoul,Pyongyang and Tokyo. Australia would be home to a new Inland sea and finally Antarctica would become more of and archipelago but unlike the Antarctica up today this Antarctica would likely be Habitable and easily Colonizable by future humans.

So what can we do to prevent this disastrous future from happening ?

Reducing the usage of humanity's fossil fuels.

Take on serious action about climate change because the government doesn't seem to be taking
serious action of it.

Reduce the amount of trees getting cut down per minute because there a just to many trees that are getting cut down and not being replanted which is bad because it helps humans and animals live.

Take quick action of trying to get rid of all uses of transportation that run by gas and start working on trying to make more transportation that run by electricity which will make a large difference.

Stop pollution because it's happening all over the world and extend the amount of bins being made  all around the world so that the rubbish can be recycled and there will be a place for it to be thrown into and not on the ground or into the oceans because a lot of sea creatures are mistaking rubbish thrown or blown away into their homes for food which will be stuck in their stomachs and it could lead them to have diseases or even death just because of our foolish actions and mistakes so we need to stop pollution because it's affecting human lives and it's affecting the ocean lives.

how does ice cap melt affect climate change ?

Through the water cycle.

Carbon Footprint experience

What is your Carbon Footprint?

You are now going to look at your own carbon footprint by taking a questionnaire. Remember to 'Add details to improve accuracy.

Based on the questionnaire what is your:

1. Ecological Footprint
2. Carbon Footprint

How many planets did you have?
3.5 earths

what are two simple ways to save electricity when
you are on holiday.

1. Unplug devices and home appliances.
2.Turn off all running power sources.

What is carbon footprint ?

The total amount of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human activities.

what are two ways to help save our planet.

1:Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away. ...                        2:Volunteer. Volunteer for cleanups in your community. ...

what has humanity done to the planet

Human impact on the environment or anthropogenic impact on the environment includes changes to biophysical environments and ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural resources caused directly or indirectly by human, including global warming, environmental degradation (such as ocean acidification), mass extinction and

what is zero waste?

Zero Waste is a set of principles focused on waste prevention that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The goal is for no trash to be sent to landfills, incinerators, or the ocean. Currently, only 9% of plastic is actually.

Food Technology

Today at food tech we made cookies we had to assemble all the ingredients that were needed and all the tools needed to make these yummy cookies. We had to prepare the tools and made sure we had everything we needed then we were each given a piece of paper with the ingredients and the instructions on how and what to do. These are the tools we needed to make the cookie dough but firstly before we gathered everything together we needed to get our name tags and put on an apron and wash our hands and dry them and spray our benches and wipe them down to make sure it's good to work around and put food on it and to kill all the bacteria left over.

Materials:

1. x2 medium sized metal bowl.

2. x2 rubber scraper.

3. x2 wooden spoons.

4. x2 sieve.

5. x2 baking sheets.

6. x2 plastic plates.

7. x2 white bowls.

8. x2 baking trays.

Those are the tools needed to make the cookie dough. here are the ingredients we used to make these cookies. You will see that next to the ingredients it has x2 it's because we worked in groups of four to five people so we needed two times the materials and ingredients.

Ingredients:

1. x2 125g butter/margarine.

2. x2 100g light brown soft sugar.

3  x2 125g caster sugar.

4. x2 egg, lightly beaten.

5. x2 1 tsp vanilla extract.

6. x2 225g self-raising flour.

7. x2 1/2 tsp salt.

8. x2 200g chocolate chip.

Now that we have all our ingredients and all our materials needed all we needed to do was assemble all the ingredients together one at a time in order. We had to sift the flour onto a plastic plate then after the flours been sifted we needed to transport it into the metal bowl then put the butter into the metal bowl with the flour then beat it till it's nice and creamy and smooth and make sure you get every bit of flour off the plastic plate into the metal bowl after that you will add light brown soft sugar and the caster sugar and the egg and beat it again till its creamy again. Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract then mix it lightly then add 1/2 tsp of salt. Mix it lightly again then add a bit more flour and and add the chocolate chips then don't mix it just lightly fold it on top over and over then scrape the left over bits on the side and on the wooden spoon after that pick the dough up with your hands and put it onto a piece of baking paper then wrap it up and freeze it overnight. The next day take the dough out of the fridge and warm it with your hands so it can soften then you will need to weigh your dough and the you will need to workout how much will each cookie need to evenly weigh into twelve cookies then put the cookies onto a baking tray and make sure there spread out so that they can bake evenly then you will need to weigh on of the cookies and the one that you weighed before it went into the oven needs two lines on it so you know wich cookie you weighed then put the trays into the oven at fan bake at 180 degrees you will need to time ten minutes after five minutes you will need to rotate the cookies in the front to the back so it can bake evenly after then minutes take the tray out of the oven carefully and put it onto a wooden board then you will let them cool for a bit then take the cookie you weighed and weigh it again and then think about why the weight of the cookie has gone lighter or heavier and write a conclusion on why you think the it has happened then wash your dishes and clean everything and enjoy your cookies. Thanks to Mrs Hindson for showing us how to make these cookies and taking for taking it step by step. I really enjoyed the cookies i would rate them a 9/10. Unfortunately i don't have photos of the cookies because i ate them cos they were too good.

Learning objectives

I can preform using my voice.

I can discuss how healthy eating keeps me
Physically healthy.

In drama today I was being people smart by doing my work and staying on task and finishing off my puppet but at the same time I was mucking around because I was running around and playing with my friend Tyler so I was being people smart but at the same time i wasn't really. I know for sure next time at drama I will be people smart one hundred percent and I won't muck around and I can use this to reflect on. At drama I was being helpful by picking up rubish at the end and by listening to the teacher.
